Final Drive TV at USTCC Thunderhill

Gogogear.com President Ali Arsham and his UTI/Konig Wheels Hyundai Genesis Coupe battled it out back in November 2015 in the last race of the USTCC season at Thunderhill Raceway. Final Drive picked up the event in their recently released Episode 47 of Final Drive TV. Ali Arsham has been featured as a Face Of Konig a while back for his contribution to the motorsports & road racing community.  He currently runs the Konig Integram, which is Flow Formed, on his racecar.

Whats so interesting to watch in this episode is how more then a few USTCC racers run Konig Flow Formed product on the track and have for years!  Drivers like Michael McCulligan, the guys from Life’s Good Racing and a few others push their Konig product harder then most others will ever do!   Konig’s Flow Formed Line Up is a very popular choice amongst road racers & weekend autocross enthusiasts alike.   The product is extremely affordable and has an extremely high level of quality that is perfect for the street or the intense abuse of track conditions.

Look Back At San Francisco Auto Show

Our good friend Ali Arsham at Gogogear.com who runs the number 33 Hyundai Genesis in NASA’s USTCC series brought both the Genesis and the USTCC Kia Optima pacecar featuring 18” Konig Backbone wheels to the San Francisco International Auto Show back in November.  As you may have seen on here before the Genesis Coupe is running Konig Kilograms in 18″.  The race cars received excellent feedback from the audience.

The showing gained interest from men and woman alike; that is, men and woman interested in race cars. The show was sponsored by the San Francisco Chronicle and AutoTrader.com. This gave some of the larger manufactures a chance to show off their latest and greatest. At the event there was a booth setup for “Ride and Drive” which hosted such manufactures as GM, Nissan and Scion. This allowed the spectators to sign up and drive the cars around under a normal setting. In the past Chevy had something similar; “Rev it Up” allowed the drivers to put the cars through 1000ft drag stretch, autocross course and other exciting transitions to get the car loose and leave you smiling the whole time. While this was not nearly as exciting, this was something that 99.999% of the people who were at the show were interested in. How does the car drive on the road everyday and is this the car for me? This gave the spectators the opportunity to drive the car around under supervision with a representative from each company. This allowed the potential buyers the ability to ask questions and get answers on the fly. Traction control remained on so clipping perfect apexes was unavailable during the 15 minute session. The spectators loved the Hyundai Genesis Coupe so much that they even posted a picture of it on the SF Auto Show website.

At the show they had a display set up that let spectators view the USTCC race cars and were given the opportunity to get information about USTCC series. Having the vehicles displayed sparked interest as to both the beautiful Konig wheels that were displayed on the race cars but also gained interested in the sport.  People were grabbing the Konig information pamphlets faster than they could be replaced.

We can’t thank all of the members of USTCC enough especially the wonderful people of team Gogogear.com racing!

Attention New York City: Have you seen this vehicle?

We are always getting some really cool stuff shared by our fans and friends. Ali Arsham is no exception. Mr. Arsham runs GoGoGear.com. GoGoGear specializes in Custom Graphics, Apparel and Promotional Products. Ali Arsham has been racing for 22 years. He is also a fabricator and one of his more recent builds was the 2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe. If you follow our blog, then you know the exposure this car has received since it was debuted. The car has traveled to various Auto Shows and Events across the country. However, this Genesis Coupe is by no means just a sweet race-built show car. On May 22nd, 2012 at Thunderhills Raceway in Willows California it shared 3rd place in the 2nd round of the Nitto Tires United States Touring Car Championship (USTCC).

Ali and the GoGoGear team just shared this image of the Genesis Coupe in action on the big screen in Times Square, New York, NY. This is certainly exciting for KONIG Wheels, GoGoGear and the USTCC. Check out the image below. Let us know in the comment section if you were walking down 7th Avenue in Times Square and saw this on the screen!

First Podium for Hyundai

Ali Arsham Scores his First Podium for the GoGoGear.com/Konig Wheels Hyundai Genesis Coupe

Willows, Calif., May 22, 2012 – Ali Arsham, driving the GoGoGear.com/Konig Wheels Hyundai Genesis Coupe, finished in third place in round two of the Nitto Tires United States Touring Car Championship (USTCC) at Thunderhill Raceway in Willows, California. The team fought hard against many other manufacturers including Volvo, Mazda, Dodge, Honda, Acura, Mitsubishi and BMW using crew mostly comprised of students and instructors from Universal Technical Institute, a leading training school for future automotive technicians.

The race started off in a normal fashion with Robert Thorne’s K-PAX Volvo C30 starting from pole position and assuming the lead. A fight soon began between the Volvo of Thorne and the TNI Racing Mazdaspeed 3 of Felipe Cabezas. Cabezas was glued to the yellow Volvo and would not let Thorne get away. The two started to pull away from everyone else and nearly collided on the first lap in Turn 6. Behind the pair, Arsham’s Hyundai was running on a completely different strategy. Things really got interesting as soon as the fuel stops started to come into play.

After about 90 minutes of racing the battle for the final podium spot started to heat up. Arsham’s Hyundai was running in third place in the latter part of the race. “My strategist was on the radio telling me that Cabezas was on the same lap as me and was gaining on me quickly. He did the math and said that I need to speed up considerably or I will get passed,” commented Arsham after the race.

The GoGoGear.com team’s strategy was bold and risky from the beginning. They decided to try and complete the race without stopping for fuel. “Hyundais are known for their excellent reliability and fuel economy. We knew that these were the strengths of our Del City.net Genesis Coupe and knew that we needed to use those strengths to gain an advantage,” added Arsham.

On lap 39, the Mazda caught up and passed Arsham and it looked like the Mazda was headed to the podium. But five laps later, the Mazda was forced to pit. The turbocharged engine was thirsty and needed more fuel while the 3.8-liter V6 engine in the Hyunai was providing much better fuel economy. The TNI Racing Team crew hurried and did a super quick pit stop lap of 3:03, the fastest pit stop of the day to try to send Cabezas in front of Arsham. But as the car was still in the pits, Arsham roared by the pits and reclaimed third place. Then both teams started to work out the math to figure out the gap. With only five laps left in the race, Arsham’s crew radioed him to step it up. They knew that third place was theirs to lose. Arsham started to click his personal best laps in the last five laps of the race trying to stop Cabezas from catching him. The TNI Racing crew also knew what was going on and were telling Cabezas that he needs to step it up. While on the last lap, Cabezas was behind the winner but one lap down and the checkered flag was shown. Cabezas was done but Arsham who still had not received the checkered flag had one more lap to finish.

Everything was looking good but suddenly at Turn 9, the Hyundai slowed down out of fuel. “I knew it was out of gas because we have done considerable testing and know exactly what the car will and will not do. I knew that if I can get to Turn 14, I would be in good shape because it is a right hand turn and the fuel pick up is on the left side. Sure enough, just when it looked like the car was done, it came back to life,” said a very happy Arsham. The Hyundai crossed the finish line and then stopped on the side of the track, just after the pit exit in third place. “We used Hyundai’s fuel economy to our advantage to score a podium finish. This was our first podium finish in our Hyundai. Being able to do it with the help of the Universal Technical Institute students and instructors, is a real bonus,“ added Arsham.

The GoGoGear.com Racing team will be racing their Hyundai Genesis Coupe at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, CA on June 16-17, 2012 joining the National Auto Sport Association for their big summer racing festival. For more information visit www.gogogear.com or www.ustcc.com
