Behind the Wheel Podcast Ep. 274: The Best All-Wheel Drive Systems

In Episode 274 of Konig Wheels’ Behind the Wheel Podcast, hosts Scott and Daut dive deep into the world of all-wheel drive (AWD) systems, comparing the best setups in performance cars like the Nissan GT-R and the Audi Quattro. Whether you’re a die-hard car enthusiast or just love learning about cutting-edge automotive technology, this episode delivers expert insights and real-world experiences.

What Makes the Nissan GT-R’s AWD System a Top Contender?

Scott kicks off the discussion by highlighting his experiences driving a variety of AWD setups, from Subarus to Evos, and even DSM models. However, when it comes to ranking the best of the best, the Nissan GT-R’s AWD system consistently ranks at the top. According to Scott, the GT-R gives you the best of both worlds—remarkable rear-wheel-drive bias coupled with the power to handle any road condition.

What sets the GT-R apart? It’s the intelligent way the system distributes power, almost like a rear-wheel-drive car with front-wheel assist. The GT-R’s ETS system dynamically distributes power between the front and rear, allowing for optimal performance in every scenario. Scott explains how the car adapts to provide maximum control, saying, “It’s basically a rear-wheel-drive car that transfers power to the front when necessary.” With the GT-R, you’re in command—whether you’re kicking into turns or putting the throttle down.

Audi Quattro: A Strong Competitor

Daut, a loyal Audi fan, offers his perspective by comparing the Audi Quattro system to the GT-R. He emphasizes that Audi’s RS models feature a rear-wheel bias, allowing for better cornering and overall control. According to Daut, “The torque-vectoring system in Audi’s RS lineup is a game-changer, distributing power exactly where it’s needed.” This intelligent system allows drivers to enjoy a balanced driving experience, even when pushing the car to its limits.

The hosts go on to discuss how torque vectoring plays a vital role in both systems, but with Audi’s Quattro system, it’s the key to balancing power output and cornering prowess. Both Scott and Daut agree that while Audi’s system is more predictable, the GT-R offers a more dynamic, visceral driving experience.

Performance Beyond the Numbers

The conversation shifts to personal stories from the track. Scott recalls his drag racing days in AWD cars, reminiscing about how incredible it was to launch a car with the sheer power of an AWD system. “You shoot out of the hole like a bat out of hell,” he says, explaining how the GT-R’s power delivery makes it a force to be reckoned with on any track.

Daut chimes in with his experiences driving the Audi RS3, describing how the Quattro AWD system offers seamless power distribution, especially when navigating sharp corners. He compares it to the GT-R, stating, “Both systems have their merits, but the Audi feels a bit more predictable in high-powered situations.”

Which AWD System Reigns Supreme?

In the end, both Scott and Daut agree that while no two AWD systems are created equal, the Nissan GT-R and Audi Quattro systems rank among the best. The GT-R offers an exhilarating, dynamic experience with its rear-wheel-drive bias and intuitive power distribution, while the Audi Quattro provides reliability and precision, making it a favorite among performance car enthusiasts.

If you’re in the market for an AWD car or just love discussing the finer points of automotive engineering, this episode of Behind the Wheel is a must-listen. Tune in to hear more about these iconic AWD systems and what makes them stand out on the road and track.

If a wheel is more expensive does that mean the quality is better?! In this week’s Behind The Wheel “Wheel Wednesday” podcast, Konig Vice President, Scott and Sales Representative, Daut with Michael Roselli , Content Director at FCP Euro. It’s safe to say that, if you own a European car, you’ve heard of (and likely purchased parts from) FCP Euro. If you haven’t, then chances are you are quite literally living under a rock.

Michael told us everything we wanted to know about FCP Euro’s “Lifetime Replacement Guarantee,” which – believe it or not – is not a gimmick! He also talked about the company’s race program and how they are continually helping people on Race Day (yes, even racers that they are competing against!). Finally, Michael, Scott & Jared discussed the new age of content creation and how valuable (and necessary) it is to companies like Konig and FCP Euro.

Waterfest 19

Waterfest is one of the most premier and largest VW / Audi shows period! This past weekend we were out in Englishtown, NJ representing Konig, Privat and Advanti Racing at Raceway Park. It was extremely hot throughout the weekend, and not just due to the weather, the cars also heated the event up nicely.

Check out some pictures of our booth. We were showing off some of the Privat product with the Weidens in 19×8 / 19×9 on an 08 Audi S5 and we also had a MKV Jetta running 18×9 Privat Remembers that were custom painted orange.
