Pat Mordaunt at Road Atlanta

Mordaunt 90Braselton, GA – The road to the championship can be paved with gold or a pothole-riddled pavement ready to take you out at any time. The high-throttle, big speed and open environment of Road Atlanta encourages both bravery and foolery that can result in an amazing run or disaster. That is why it is such a crowd favorite. Patrick Mordaunt came in eighth in points and was looking to take his Great Eight finish from Round One as momentum into the Top 10, but his car would have other plans.

“The day started out great,” says Pat, “everything on the car felt good and I pushed it in qualifying after going off a couple of times in practice.” Pat took it too wide going into the horseshoe of the Road Atlanta course on his first run, causing him to straighten out and net a zero on his first run. He knew that a conservative run would not look great but it was his only chance to make Top 32. “I knew that zero was going to require me to play it safe if I wanted to compete on Saturday,” says Pat on his second qualifying run. “I hate running like that, but I have to think overall about the championship.”
