Formula Drift returned to Texas Motor Speedway a couple of weeks ago and brought Texas that Drift excitment that only they can deliver. With them they brought some of the best professional drifters in the world to compete in both Pro 1 and Pro 2 drift series.
Konig sponsored driver Patrick Mordaunt was there and ready to take on the fast and difficult course. Toward the end of practice on Thursday Patrick had some axle trouble with his 350z which caused him to shut it down early. However that was not an issue as they were up and ready to run again for qualifying on Friday.

On Friday Patrick went into qualifing looking to move up the standings after having mechanical problems in Round 6. Starting off strong, Patrick killed it on the initiation of his first run, but missed the second inside clip resulted in a qualifying score of 72. A strong second qualifying run improved Patrick’s score and landed him in the 27th qualifying spot. Patrick had a tough draw in the round of 32, going up against two-time Formula Drift champion and current points leader Chris Forsberg.
Fast forward to that battle. On his chase run Patrick came off the initiation right on Chris’ door and maintained tight proximity through the first half of the course. A small mistake on outer zone 2 let Chris create a little bit of separation on the second half of the course. Patrick drove a strong lead run, but Forsberg was able to maintain good proximity throughout, giving Chris the victory.
Sometimes even when you drive well its just not enough! It takes a ton of time and effort for these drivers and teams to compete at this level. Great effort by Pat and his team. We are looking forward to a strong finish to the season at the final round coming up on October 7-8 at Irwindale Speedway. Stay tuned!
